The Interior Design (DI) Study Program of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) at Untar, in collaboration with Vershome and Playo, held a joint exhibition during the annual design festival, M Bloc Design Week (MBDW) 2024, at the Creative Hall, Mbloc Space, Jakarta. The exhibition ran for nine days, starting Friday, September 27, 2024. The DI program showcased sustainable, creative, and innovative products in partnership with the interior design consultancy Vershome and the creative studio Playo. Together, they created “The Labrary” – a space combining the concepts of a laboratory and a library. Featured in the exhibition was a collaborative work by DI lecturer Maitri Widya Mutiara and his student Muhammad Rifki Aditya, a chair made from recycled plastic waste called the “KidEco Set.” Additionally, there was a work by another DI lecturer, Ferdinan Kendall, named “Arkatana” (A Legacy of Tradition, Woven for Tomorrow). Arkatana is a chair inspired by the Tongkonan roof of the Toraja people, with a rattan frame and seat woven from t-shirt waste. This work resulted from collaboration with the Rambah Runtah Community from Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, and a community of women from Bantargebang.
As part of the event, a talk show was held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, discussing interior design, particularly related to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, which focuses on Responsible Consumption and Production. The speakers included DI Untar lecturer Dwi Sulistyawati, Creative Director of Vershome Roni Timothy (also an Untar DI alumnus), Hendro Hadinata (Art Object and Furniture Designer, Studio Hendro Hadinata), and Eugenio Hendro (Furniture Designer and Creative Director, Eugenio Hendro Studio). “This collaboration brings forth creative ideas related to sustainability. In general, creating sustainable products is a way to save the Earth, which should be inherent in every individual,” said Dwi Sulistyawati. Meanwhile, Roni hoped that this discussion would lead to actions that can bring about future changes.
