The Interior Design Study Program (DI) of Untar’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD), in collaboration with Vershome and Playo, participated in the annual design festival M Bloc Design Week (MBDW) 2024 at the Creative Hall, M Bloc Space, Jakarta. The exhibition ran for nine days, beginning on Friday (27/09/2024).

The Interior Design Study Program showcased a range of sustainable, creative, and innovative products developed in partnership with interior design consultancy Vershome and creative studio Playo. Together, the three parties created “The Labrary,” a space that combines the concepts of a laboratory and a library. Among the featured works was “KidEco Set,” a chair made from recycled plastic waste. The project was a collaboration between Interior Design lecturer Maitri Widya Mutiara and her student Muhammad Rifki Aditya.

The exhibition also featured another work by Interior Design lecturer Ferdinan Kendall, titled “Arkatana” (A Legacy of Tradition, Woven for Tomorrow). Inspired by the iconic Tongkonan roof of the Toraja people, Arkatana is a chair constructed with a rattan frame and a seat woven from discarded T-shirt fabric. The project was developed in collaboration with the Rambah Runtah Community in Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, and local women’s groups in the area.

As part of the same event, a talk show focusing on interior design and its connection to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production was held on Sunday (6/10/2024). The discussion featured Untar Interior Design lecturer Dwi Sulistyawati, Vershome Creative Director Roni Timothy, who is also an Untar Interior Design alumnus, Hendro Hadinata (Art Object and Furniture Designer at Studio Hendro Hadinata), and Eugenio Hendro (Furniture Designer and Creative Director of Eugenio Hendro Studio).

“This collaboration promotes creative ideas related to sustainability. In general, creating sustainable products is one way to help save the planet, and this mindset should be embedded in every individual,” said Dwi Sulistyawati. Meanwhile, Roni Timothy expressed his hope that the discussion would inspire concrete actions capable of creating meaningful change in the future. (VC/YS/VC)
