Wasino’s research on geotargeting and geofencing successfully earned him a doctoral degree from Untar’s Doctor of Management Science Program (Prodi DIM). He defended his dissertation entitled “Design of a Location-Based Tourism Marketing Service System Using Geotargeting and Geofencing” during an Open Examination held on Tuesday (25/6/2024) at the Auditorium of Campus I Untar.
The open examination was chaired by Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng. Serving as examiner and principal promoter was Prof. Dr. Ir. Dyah Erny Herwindiati, M.Si., while Prof. Dr. Ignatius Roni Setyawan, S.E., M.Si. acted as co-promoter.
The examination panel also included Prof. Haris Maupa, S.E., M.Si., Prof. Ir. Carunia Mulya Firdausy, M.ADE., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Mahlia Muis, S.E., M.Si.
Wasino explained that the study aimed to develop a marketing service system utilizing targeted notification messages through geographical boundary restrictions, namely geotargeting and geofencing.
According to him, geotargeting can be used to market products or services to specific groups of users based on their location, such as a city or country, through geolocation technology. Meanwhile, geofencing has emerged as a result of advances in mobile device multitasking capabilities, enabling devices to process users’ locations and trigger location-based interactions.
The findings of the research propose a framework designed to provide a deeper understanding of digital marketing practices and applications.
Wasino, who is also a permanent lecturer in the Information Systems Program of the Faculty of Information Technology at Untar, graduated with a cum laude distinction and became the 11th graduate of Untar’s Doctor of Management Science Program. (DP/YS/KJ)
