Every June 1, Indonesians commemorate the birthday of Pancasila. This date has a very important meaning in Indonesian history because it is the day when Pancasila was first introduced by President Soekarno in 1945.

Pancasila, which consists of five precepts, has become the philosophical basis and ideology of the Indonesian nation. This commemoration is not just ceremonial, but also a moment of reflection for all levels of society.

History of the Birthday of Pancasila

On June 1, 1945, Ir. Soekarno delivered a speech proposing the basis of an independent Indonesian state in a session of the Indonesian Independence Preparation Investigation Board (BPUPKI).

In his speech, Soekarno introduced five principles, including Indonesian Nationality, Internationalism or Humanity, Consensus or Democracy, Social Welfare, and Supreme Godhead.

After Indonesia proclaimed its independence, the Indonesian Independence Preparatory Committee (PPKI) held a session and ratified the 1945 Constitution, precisely on August 18, 1945.

Meaning and Value of Pancasila

In the fourth paragraph of the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, it is stated that Pancasila is the basis of the state, as follows.

1. Supreme Godhead
The first principle emphasizes that the Indonesian nation is a religious nation and upholds spiritual values and respects religious differences.

2. Fair and Civilized Humanity
The second principle emphasizes the importance of respect for human rights and social justice.

3. Indonesian Unity
The third precept underlines the importance of national unity in diversity.

4. Democracy Led by Wisdom in Consultation/Representation
The fourth precept teaches the importance of democracy and deliberation to reach consensus.

5. Social Justice for All Indonesian People
The fifth precept focuses on welfare and social justice for all the people.

These five precepts are not just a series of words, but contain values that guide the life of the nation and state for all Indonesian people.

Pancasila in the Modern Era

In the era of globalization and digitalization, the challenges faced by the Indonesian people are increasingly complex. However, Pancasila remains relevant as a guideline in dealing with various problems.

The values of Pancasila can be the foundation to build tolerance, strengthen social solidarity, and maintain the integrity and sovereignty of the nation.

Practicing Pancasila Values at Untar

The role of the younger generation in maintaining and practicing the values of Pancasila is vital. Through continuous education and socialization, it is expected that the younger generation can understand and apply Pancasila in their daily lives.

Untar has a strategic role in disseminating Pancasila values to the academic community, one of which is through the Humanities course.

The commemoration of the birth of Pancasila is not only about remembering history, but also about reflecting and practicing the values contained in it.

Pancasila is the identity of the Indonesian nation that must be preserved and passed on to future generations.

Let us continue to strengthen the spirit of nationalism and unity within the framework of Pancasila.
