Untar together with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Indonesia Section, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Indonesia Section, and IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Indonesia Chapter held Women Talks on Communications Seminar at Auditorium Campus I Untar, Monday (13/5).
In his speech, Rector of Untar Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng. said that Untar is also open to cooperate with other institutions in various fields, such as academic visits, joint teaching programs, collaborative research, exchange of academic materials, student exchange, and so forth.
Director of IEEE Region 10 (R10) Prof. Emeritus Lance Fung and Director-Elect of IEEE R10 Prof. Takako Hashimoto also attended as speakers at this event.
Themed “Empowering Voices, Engineering Futures: Women in Engineering Redefining Communications”, Lance explained that communication is the main foundation in the process of exchanging information, ideas, thoughts, and feelings between individuals or groups. Communication plays an important role in strengthening women’s voices, especially in engineering.
“Effective communication requires not only the expression of thoughts and ideas, but also the ability to understand and interpret messages from others,” she continued.
She continued, women’s superiority in interpersonal communication skills and empathy confirms their significant contributions in various fields of communication, including technology, media, and publications.
This activity is part of the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program which facilitates experienced lecturers to present topics in their fields of expertise.
Also present as speakers were IEEE WIE R10 Committee Chair and TVRI Board of Trustees Dr. Agnes Irwanti, Untar Faculty of Information Technology (FTI) Lecturer Lely Hiryanto, Ph.D., Ministry of Communication and Information IEEE ComSoc Indonesia Chapter Officer Dr. Anna Christina Situmorang, and Untar students.
