Untar became the host of Indonesian Higher Education Librarian Professional Certification The opening was held at Untar Campus I, Thursday (3/8).

Head of Republic of Indonesia National Library (Perpusnas) LSP Dra. Endang Ernawati, M.Lib, stated that this certification was conducted to improve and prove librarian competencies in facing the new era, where technology and communication have advanced.

In line with Endang, Head of Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI) DKI Jakarta Irma Irmawati Ibrahim, S.S., M.Kom. said that technological advancements affect various lines of work, including librarian.

“To prove one’s competence, a librarian must own librarian certification,” Irma continued.

Rector of Untar Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., A.E. stated that it is a librarian’s duty to facilitate and encourage students and lecturers to read.

According to Rector, reading interest in Indonesia are low, including among students and lecturers. This becomes the challenge that has to be resolved by current librarians.

The two-day Librarian Certification was attended by university leaders and librarians from various higher education institutions across Indonesia. Untar Library is A-accredited and completed with various leading facilities. (YI/YS/AW)
