High level of residential mobility in the capital city affects DKI Jakarta residents’ lives, now and in the future.
In order to discuss on the topic, Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPWK) Study Program collaborates with Indonesia Property Watch (IPW) held a webinar series themed “Why the Concept of TOD is Important for the future of Jakarta”, Wednesday (8/2).
The webinar in the form of interactive talk-show presented President Director of PT Adhi Commuter Properti Rizkan Firman and Director of Business Development PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Farchad H. Mahfud as speakers.
Rizkan Firman stated that the data of commuter shows people commuting to Jakarta from Jabodetabek reaches 2,5 times of Jakarta residents. “People commuting to Jakarta from Jabodetabek everyday are about 29 million,” he said.
He explained, that the concept of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is important to be developed, especially in mass transportation sites, for a better Jakarta residents lives in the future.
“This will be a solution to traffic jam, and people living near stations or mass transportation sites surely will appreciate. This will help them save time, cost, live healthier, and to support the effort to decrease pollution,” he explained.
Furthermore, Farchad H. Mahfud emphasized that the concept of TOD is the solution for a more effective and efficient Jakarta mobility.
“As the cost of energy and the cost of transportation rise, a concept to develop a city that supports mobility efficiency becomes inevitable. The concept is TOD or a region that oriented on transit,” he said.
