Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) hosted the International Conference of Asia-Pacific Planning Societies (ICAPPS), bringing together representatives of urban and regional planning organizations from several countries across the Asia-Pacific region on Thursday (20/8/2026) at Untar Campus I, Jakarta. The conference was a collaboration between the Undergraduate Urban and Regional Planning & Real Estate Study Program of the Faculty of Engineering, the Indonesian Association of Planners (IAP), and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.
The conference served as a forum to discuss developments in regional and urban planning amid climate change, urbanization, demographic shifts, and technological advancement. Participants included Chair of the Indonesian Association of Planners Adriadi Dimastanto, S.T., M.Ars.; Chair of the City Planning Institute of Japan Prof. Hideki Koizumi, Ph.D.; Chair of the Korean Planning Association Prof. Ihl Kweon; Chair of the Taiwan Institute of Urban Planning Prof. Jen-Te Pai; and Chair of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association Tran Ngoc Chinh.
In his remarks, Prof. Hideki Koizumi highlighted the increasingly complex challenges facing urban development. According to him, urban planning and infrastructure development today must address urbanization, climate change, demographic shifts, as well as the integration of smart and innovative technologies.
“Globally connected urban development must be grounded in sustainability and move beyond traditional approaches,” Koizumi said.
Untar Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog, emphasized the importance of international collaboration in responding to changes in spatial planning.
According to the Vice Rector, spatial planning is increasingly required to adapt to various challenges, including climate change, local community participation, and the development of digital-based planning.
“Through this conference, we hope Untar can continue to facilitate infrastructure development and contribute to creating sustainable value, not only in Indonesia but also globally,” she said.
ICAPPS was held in Jakarta from August 19–21, 2026. The series of activities continued with a special visit to the Nusantara Capital (IKN) from August 21–22, 2026. (CJ/YS)
