Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) welcomed its new students through the 2026 Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PKKMB) at Tarumanagara Arena, Untar Campus I, Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

The event served as an introduction to academic life while fostering character development among new students, with a particular emphasis on the value of entrepreneurship.

Themed “Embrace The Adventure of Endless Possibilities: Move Beyond Expectation,” PKKMB Untar 2026 runs through Friday (14/8/2026).

Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., emphasized that students need the courage to make decisions amid uncertainty while continuously developing their abilities in both academic and non-academic fields.

“In line with this year’s theme, I hope students can go beyond expectations and achieve success—not only through their achievements but also by developing strong character. Do not be afraid to learn from failure because failure is not the end of the story,” the Rector said while welcoming the new Untar students.

One of the sessions featured a public lecture on entrepreneurship delivered by Dr. Ir. Joni Phangestu, M.M. The topic was closely aligned with one of Untar’s core values, namely entrepreneurship.

Joni, who is also an entrepreneur, academic, and Untar alumnus, explained that entrepreneurship is not merely about running a business but also represents a way of thinking and acting when facing challenges. Students, he said, need to be able to identify opportunities, create value by developing solutions to problems, and turn those ideas into reality.

“Treat your university years as a serious playground. Explore without limits, build relationships, and dare to go beyond expectations,” he emphasized.

Students can further develop their entrepreneurial skills through various activities during their university years, including joining organizations, participating in campus events, undertaking internships, proposing ideas, developing side hustles, and becoming accustomed to solving real-world problems.

These abilities are increasingly important amid rapid technological development. Advances in financial technology and artificial intelligence are transforming various aspects of society, including education and the workplace. This situation requires human resources who can adapt, communicate effectively, and develop ideas and solutions.

The opening of PKKMB Untar 2026 was marked by the handover of new student data from the Rector to the faculty deans, the striking of a ceremonial gong, and the donning of the university’s almamater jackets. The ceremony symbolized the formal welcoming of the new students as members of the Untar academic community.

Also attending the event were Untar Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog; Head of the Institute for Student Affairs and Alumni Tri Sutrisno, S.Si., M.Sc.; and Secretary of the Tarumanagara Foundation Board Vedrych J. Kusnanto, S.Kom., M.M.

The PKKMB Untar 2026 series will run for three days through Friday (14/8/2026). Activities for the new students will then continue with the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia Commemoration Ceremony on Monday (17/8/2026) at Untar Campus II. (VC/YS)
