Maitri Widya Mutiara was awarded a Doctor of Management Science degree with a GPA of 3.98 after successfully defending her dissertation entitled “Design Management Model for the Furniture Industry in Jepara” during the Open Dissertation Examination of the Doctor of Management Science Program (Prodi DIM), Graduate School of Untar, held at the Auditorium of Campus I Untar on Monday (24/6).

Her research aimed to develop a design management model that can be implemented in local furniture industries, using the furniture industry in Jepara as a case study.

“Design management is used to manage design within a company in order to create added value and enhance competitiveness,” she explained.

The findings revealed that the furniture industry in Jepara has not yet widely adopted design management practices. Therefore, she emphasized that a thorough understanding of design itself is essential for the successful implementation of design management within the industry.

Chairman of the Indonesian Society of Interior Designers (HDII) Rohadi Sumardi, HDII, expressed his congratulations and pride regarding Dr. Maitri’s achievement.

“Her research not only contributes to academic discourse but also carries practical implications for industry practitioners,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng., who served as the chair of the examination session and principal promoter, encouraged her to continue producing work that benefits society while remaining humble.

Maitri graduated with the distinction of Very Satisfactory. She also serves as Head of the Undergraduate Interior Design Program at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) Untar and became the ninth graduate of the Doctor of Management Science Program at Untar’s Graduate School. (DN/AW/KJ)
