The Faculty of Medicine (FK) Untar, in collaboration with Hunan University of Chinese Medicine (HUCM), China, organized the Seminar on Integrative Medicine under the theme “The Role of Traditional Indonesian and Chinese Medicine in conjunction with Western Medicine” on Thursday (30/5/2024) at the Auditorium of Building J, Campus I Untar.
In his opening remarks, Dean of FK Untar Dr. dr. Noer Saelan Tadjudin, Sp.KJ., stated that Indonesia has a wide variety of herbal medicines and that traditional medicine plays a significant role in healthcare, contributing to a healthier society.
“I hope this seminar can contribute to integrating Western medicine with herbal medicine. I also hope that this seminar will be beneficial for all of us, especially for future medical students,” he said.
On the same occasion, Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng. emphasized the importance of research on traditional medicine for the Faculty of Medicine, whether conducted independently by Untar or through collaboration with HUCM.
“Hopefully, today’s seminar will help us advance toward a higher standard of public health. We hope that our contributions can truly benefit society, and let us continue to strengthen collaboration in the healthcare sector,” he remarked.
He also expressed hope that the seminar would provide valuable contributions to the healthcare field, considering the growing demand for healthcare services in Indonesia. The collaboration between FK Untar and HUCM in transforming traditional medicine into modern medical applications is expected to contribute significantly to public health.
The event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Untar and HUCM, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Dean of FK Untar and the Dean of the International Education Institute.
The seminar featured distinguished speakers, including Vice President of HUCM Prof. Peng Qinghua, Dean of the International Education Institute HUCM Prof. Tian Xuefei, Vice Dean of the College of Integrated TCM and Western Medicine HUCM Prof. Mei Zhigang, Dean of the College of Medicine HUCM Prof. Tuo Qinhui, Director of Public Health Governance at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemkes) dr. Then Suyanti, M.M., and Lecturer from the Pharmacology Department of FK Untar dr. Fenny Yunita, M.Si., Ph.D.
The international seminar was also attended by Secretary of the Tarumanagara Foundation Management Board Vedrych J. Kusnanto, S.Kom., M.M., Chairman of the Indonesian Medical Herbal Discipline Association (PDHMI) Dr. Abidinsyah Siregar, D.H.S.M., M.B.A., M.Kes., as well as leaders, lecturers, and students of FK Untar.
