BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto Awarded Honorary Doctorate by Untar

The Open Senate Session of Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) conferred an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) in Law upon Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto, S.I.K., S.H., M.Si.. The conferment ceremony took place on Saturday (31/01/2026) at the Auditorium of Campus I Untar.

The Open Senate Session, led by Rector of Universitas Tarumanagara Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., stated that the honorary degree was awarded to a national figure recognized for contributions to the development and enforcement of law. He explained that the honorary title represented Untar’s academic recognition of Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto’s contributions to strengthening policy, law enforcement, and anti-narcotics efforts are closely related to national security and legal development in Indonesia.

During his scientific oration titled “Drugs, Security, and Indonesia’s Future from the Perspective of Legal Science,” Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto stated that the event reflected the role of higher education institutions in responding to strategic national issues through academic approaches.

He emphasized that efforts to protect Indonesia’s younger generation from the dangers of narcotics became one of the key discussions highlighted in his scientific speech. According to him, the issue was not only connected to present conditions, but also to its implications for the nation’s future, considering that narcotics-related problems remain highly relevant today.

He also elaborated on the relationship between narcotics trafficking and national security, as well as the state’s role in formulating and strengthening policies and law enforcement measures to address such challenges. “As stated in the main policy direction of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, particularly in the seventh point of the Asta Cita agenda, narcotics eradication is positioned not merely as a health issue, but also as part of legal system reform and governance improvement,” stated Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto.

The Untar Senate Board, chaired by the Rector, officially approved the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate in Law upon Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto. Through this open senate session, he was formally awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Law, effective January 2026.

The senate board consisted of Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., Assoc. Prof. Sri Tiatri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Psikolog, Prof. Dr. Mella Ismelina FR, S.H., M.Hum., Prof. Dr. Rasji, S.H., M.H., M.Si., Ph.D., Dr. Ade Adhari, S.H., M.H., along with external examiner Irjen Pol. Prof. Dr. Dadang Hartanto, S.H., S.I.K., M.Si. representing the Maluku Regional Police.

The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions H. Yandri Susanto, S.Pt., M.Pd., as well as leaders of state institutions and numerous officials, particularly from the Indonesian National Police.

Born on 14 July 1973, Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto is a graduate of the AKABRI class of 1994 and PTIK class of 2003. Before serving as Head of BNN, he built a long career within the Indonesian National Police, holding several strategic positions, including Chief of Banten Regional Police, Bogor Police Chief, Majalengka Police Chief, and Central Jakarta Police Chief. He has also undertaken assignments in various countries.
