Untar hosted its 2025 Humanities Seminar on Thursday (June 12, 2025), an annual event designed to bolster national values among its students. The theme for this year’s seminar was “Strengthening Patriotism and National Resilience Through Understanding Geopolitics and National Values in Order to Reinforce National Unity.”

This online event saw the participation of over 1,000 students from seven faculties within Untar, all currently enrolled in Humanities courses. Besides attending the seminar, these students also took part in a creative works competition, submitting posters, videos, and articles, with the winners announced at the event’s conclusion.

Director of Institute for Learning & Academic Innovation Dr. Ir. Steven Darmawan, S.T., M.T., in his report, stated that this activity is part of an educational initiative aimed at instilling the values of nationalism in the younger generation.

The event was opened by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., who also served as one of the speakers. Another speaker was Masagus Salman Isfahani, Coordinator of Bilateral Relations between Indonesia – Australia & Vanuatu at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

In his opening remarks, the Rector expressed his hope that the seminar would serve as a platform for students to understand the importance of patriotism and national resilience as integral parts of national character.

“I hope this seminar will be beneficial for all participants. May you follow it through to the end and continue to foster a sense of patriotism and national resilience,” he said.

Masagus Salman Isfahani delivered a presentation on the importance of understanding geopolitics as a vital component of national resilience.

“Understanding geopolitics is not just about studying maps; it is the art of managing the relationship between power and geography. As a nation, we must be aware of the elements that define our country in order to properly position ourselves within the geopolitical landscape,” he explained.

As a speaker, Amad Sudiro also emphasized the importance of preserving the spirit of unity amid Indonesia’s diversity.

“Although Indonesia is a nation rich in ethnic groups, races, religions, and local wisdom, we are bound by the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which means ‘Unity in Diversity.’ This spirit of unity must be continuously upheld so that Indonesia can remain a sovereign nation,” he stated.

The 2025 Humanities Seminar stands as clear evidence that strengthening national values can be carried out in a contextual and inspiring way—by presenting competent figures and encouraging active student participation in creating works that reflect a spirit of patriotism.
