Every April 21st, the Indonesian people commemorate Kartini Day as a tribute to the struggles of R.A. Kartini in advocating for women’s rights, especially in the field of education. Kartini is not just a historical figure, but a symbol of change, courage, and emancipation that remains relevant to this day.

The spirit of Kartini today aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality. This goal emphasizes the importance of eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and creating equality in education, careers, and leadership.

This spirit continues to thrive at Tarumanagara University (Untar). The campus demonstrates a concrete commitment to gender equality, where there is no distinction in treatment based on gender. All students—both male and female—are given equal opportunities to grow, excel, and lead.

Many female students at Untar have demonstrated their capabilities: leading organizations, becoming teaching assistants, winning competitions, and holding strategic positions. One of them is Virly Marcelin Chandra, a student from the Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom), who says:

“In my opinion, Untar has successfully implemented the principle of gender equality. This campus inclusively fosters a fair and equal environment, one of which is by entrusting women with leadership roles,” she said.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), cited by Kompas.com (March 25, 2025), shows that Indonesian women aged 7–23 have a higher higher education graduation rate (75.76%) compared to men (73.26%). This serves as proof that Indonesian women, including Untar female students, possess an extraordinary passion for learning and creating.

The Kartini of today is not only present in the classroom but also leads change and makes a real impact in society.

Happy Kartini Day!

Together with Untar, women continue to create and contribute to an academic world that is equal, inclusive, and empowering.
