National Waste Care Day (HPSN) is commemorated every February 21st to remind us of the tragic collapse of the Leuwigajah Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Cimahi, West Java, in 2005. This tragic event claimed many lives and became a turning point for Indonesia in improving its waste management system.

Two decades have passed, yet the challenges in waste management remain significant. Therefore, HPSN continues to serve as an important moment to encourage collaboration among various parties in creating a better and more sustainable waste management system.

HPSN 2025: Collaboration for a Clean Indonesia

In 2025, HPSN carries the theme “Collaboration for a Clean Indonesia,” with the main goal of:

  1. Strengthening the commitment and active role of local governments in waste management.
  2. Increasing community participation in responsibly managing waste.
  3. Encouraging producers and business actors to impement enviromentally friendly business practices.
  4. Building a systematic and integrated waste management system across all sectors.

These four points can only be achieved through synergy between the government, society, academics, and the private sector.

The Role of Campus in Real Action

As part of the solution, Tarumanagara University (Untar), together with students and lecturers, contributes to waste reduction efforts through the following steps:

✅ Disposing of waste in the proper place and sorting it by type.

✅ Recycling waste to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills.

✅ Encouraging and educating those around about the importance of environmental awareness.

✅ Reducing the use of single-use plastics by bringing personal tumblers and shopping bags.

✅ Participating in seminars, workshops, or social activities related to waste management.

✅ Initiating creative campaigns to raise public awareness.

Time to Move Together!

With the active involvement of all elements of society, awareness of the importance of waste management can increase, thereby significantly reducing the volume of waste in Indonesia. Every small step we take today is a big investment for a cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable environmental future for the generations to come.

Happy National Waste Care Day 2025!

Let’s work together to create a more waste-conscious Indonesia through real action and limitless collaboration.
