Tarumanagara University (Untar) is known as a multicultural campus that values differences and embraces diversity. With an inclusive and open environment, Untar ensures that every member of its academic community can practice their faith and beliefs peacefully.

A portion of the academic community at Untar celebrates Good Friday each year. This is evident through the existence of Student Activity Units (UKM) closely associated with Christianity, namely the Oikoumene Fellowship of Tarumanagara University (POUT) and the Catholic student organization, Adhyatmaka Untar. Both of these UKMs are active in various spiritual activities, including the celebration of Good Friday and Easter, as well as other social initiatives.

Good Friday is a commemorative day celebrated by Christians to remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Golgotha and His death, which is a significant part of the Holy Week observance. Celebrated every Friday before Easter, this year it falls on April 18. It is regarded as a moment of reflection, mourning, and hope for Christians around the world.

The term “Good Friday” itself carries deep meaning. The word “Good” in this context refers to the sacrifice Jesus made to atone for the sins of humanity. Although it is a day filled with sacrifice, Good Friday also carries hope because it is followed by the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Quoted from one of the members of the Adhyatmaka student organization, Bryan Donovan, who expressed his hope for Good Friday: “Do not waste Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins by being lazy. Develop the skills and talents we have, starting with ourselves, and spread them for the benefit of others.”

Religious student organizations at Untar have become a platform for me to grow in faith, friendship, and organizational skills. Untar’s environment, which values religious and cultural diversity, demonstrates that every individual is accepted regardless of their background. Good Friday is not just a liturgical celebration, but also a moment to reflect on love and sacrifice. (VC/AJ/YS/VC)
