Every year, September 11 is celebrated as National Radio Day. The date is used as an important moment that marks the birth of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in 1945.

Reporting from the RRI website, the 2024 National Radio Day carries the theme “Inspiration of Indonesianness”. This theme is expected to be an inspiration in carrying out the spirit of nationality in every information and art disseminated through radio as a mass media.

Through this theme, it is hoped that radio will continue to be able to voice the beauty and diversity of Indonesian culture and unite the nation through the airwaves.

Radio during the Struggle for Independence

Radio has been one of the most influential communication media in Indonesia, especially in disseminating information during the struggle for independence. As a medium that plays a role in disseminating information at crucial times, radio helped unite various elements of the nation and convey the message of independence to all corners of the country.

In addition, radio also became a bridge between the government and the people, as well as a unifying tool for the nation that awakened the spirit of struggle.

The Role of Radio in the Modern Era

Today, radio not only serves as a medium for information dissemination, but also as a medium for education, entertainment, and inspiration. Radio opens up opportunities for many parties to be creative and voice their ideas.

With a variety of program formats, ranging from news, talk shows, to music, radio remains one of the most flexible media close to listeners.

In the digital era, radio has undergone a massive transformation. Radio is no longer just limited to Frequency Modulation (FM) or Amplitude Modulation (AM) waves, but also comes through streaming platforms, podcasts, and music apps.

This broadens radio’s access to a wider audience, including millennials and Z generations who tend to be more familiar with technology.

UKM Radio Untar Builds a Generation of Young Broadcasters

As one of the leading higher education institutions in Indonesia, Untar not only focuses on the academic development of students, but also provides a platform for student creativity through various Student Activity Units (UKM).

One of the SMEs that plays an important role in producing young broadcasters is Radio Untar. This unit provides a space for students to learn, be creative, and channel their interest in broadcasting.

Students who are members of Radio Untar have the opportunity to be involved in live broadcast programs, create creative content, and learn about radio station management. This provides practical experience for students who are interested in the broadcasting industry.

In addition, this UKM is also a means for students to develop self-confidence and public speaking skills which are important in the world of work.

Fikom Untar Introduces Radio and Broadcasting

In addition to Radio Untar UKM, the Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom) Untar also provides students with a briefing on broadcasting systems and techniques.

This is given through courses that discuss in depth the broadcasting system, broadcast production, and technical and creative aspects of the radio world. This briefing not only aims to prepare students who want to enter the radio industry, but also to develop broader communication skills.

In the midst of the ever-changing development of the broadcasting industry, Fikom Untar is committed to always providing material that is relevant and adaptive to technological and mass media developments.

National Radio Day is an important reminder of the role of radio in history and life. In the modern era, radio continues to innovate and find new forms that are relevant to the times.

Untar through Fikom and UKM Radio also maintains this spirit by producing talented young broadcasters who are ready to go on air, bringing fresh and inspiring voices.

With a spirit that never dies, let’s continue to support the existence of radio and make this medium one of the windows to a world full of creativity and information.

Happy National Radio Day. Once on Air, Stay on Air.
