Two teams from the Mechanical Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), successfully won two prestigious awards at the Indonesia Inventors Day 2024. The competition took place from August 31 to September 1, 2024, at Aston Hotel, Bali, under the WINTEX (World Young Inventors Exhibition) category. With the theme “Collaborating Across Generations Toward an Innovation Revolution,” the event fostered a spirit of innovation across generations.
WINTEX is an international platform that brings together inventors, researchers, and scientists to showcase their innovations. This year, the event welcomed participants from various countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. Beyond recognizing creative inventions, the competition also promotes technology transfer and commercialization opportunities.
Amid fierce competition with 451 teams from 25 countries, the two Mechanical Engineering teams from Untar delivered an outstanding performance.
Achievements of Untar Mechanical Engineering Team:
1. Portable Spiral Soil Auger Team
This team, consisting of Nathan Ferdiantino Hidayat, Han Han, Jonathan Arendra Lie, and Gabriel Chan, was guided by the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Program at Untar, Dr. Ir. Steven Darmawan, S.T., M.T. They successfully won the Silver Award and the Special Award from Haller Pro Inventor Foundation in the Agriculture, Livestock, Horticulture, Aquaculture, and Fisheries category.
2. Portable Wind Turbine Team
Consisting of Bryan Andrew, Lim Bryant Hasim, Adrian Farrell, and Christian Hartono, under the guidance of Ir. M. Sobron Yamin Lubis, M.Sc., Ph.D., this team won the Bronze Award in the Green Technology, Biofuels, Textile & Chemical Industry category.
Both teams prepared their innovative ideas through in-depth research to develop tools that can help mitigate natural disasters. The development process began with 2D prototype sketches, followed by 3D design simulations to test the effectiveness of their tools.
Recognition and Impact of Innovation
According to Dr. Ir. Steven Darmawan, this award is a testament to the students’ dedication in developing technology through the Capstone Design Project.
“The prototypes designed demonstrate the students’ hard work in creating innovations that benefit society,” he stated.
This competition also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and Goal 15 (Life on Land). Through this approach, the competition not only holds academic value but also directly contributes to sustainable development.
The participation of Untar’s Mechanical Engineering Program in Indonesia Inventors Day 2024 reflects both the quality of education and a strong spirit of innovation. This achievement reaffirms Untar Mechanical Engineering’s commitment to producing competent graduates who can compete at the international level. (VA/AJ/YS/VC)
