The Mechanical Vocational Board of the Indonesian Engineers Association (BKM-PII) in collaboration with Untar and IST Akprind held a Public Lecture with the theme “Becoming a Professional Engineer to Support Indonesia Emas 2045”, Saturday (16/12) at the AKPRIND Institute of Science & Technology Yogyakarta.

Rector of Untar who is also the Chairman of BKM PII Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng. was present as a guest speaker in the event.

Prof. Agustinus delivered a presentation by referring to the Engineering Law Number 11 of 2014 and how to carry out the engineering profession properly. On this occasion, he also emphasized the importance of the ability in Design Thinking to prospective professional engineers related to a series of cognitive, strategic, and practical processes that are repeatedly used to solve problems and create innovative solutions that are not thought of before (out of the box) by trying to understand users and their needs, not making assumptions, and redefining the problem.

Mechanical Engineering students must also strengthen literacy, strengthen collaboration, strengthen design concepts, strengthen material knowledge, strengthen manufacturing knowledge, strengthen business knowledge and strengthen entrepreneurial knowledge.
