“Research conducted by the academic community of a higher education institution should not only be done in the library, but should be published so that it can benefit the wider community. Research can be done by collaborating to produce quality research and providing solutions to problems that arise in people’s lives,” said UNTAR’s Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, IPU, ASEAN Eng in the “Sharing Experiences of Research Process Breakthroughs Talkshow” on Thursday (16/12) organized by the Faculty of Art and Design, Universitas Tarumanagara (FSRD Untar).

According to the Rector, researchers are lecturers and students who have an interest in contributing to building a reputation for the institution.

The talkshow, which raised topics around experiences and research in the field of design, presented historians and English writers specializing in modern Indonesian history, Peter Carey, Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan for the 2016-2020 period, Prof. Dr. H. Husnan Bey Fananie, M.A., Professor of Indonesian Performing Arts Institute of Indonesian Cultural Arts (ISBI) Bandung Prof. Dr. Endang Caturwati, S.S.T., M.S., M.A., and Interior Design Lecturer Untar Dr. Drs. Eddy Supriyatna M.M., Hum. as a speaker, and the Dean of the Faculty of Design & Creative Arts, University of Mercu Buana Dr. Ariani Kusumo Wardhani, M.Ds., CS, as the moderator.

Head of the UNTAR Interior Design Study Program and the Chief Organizer of this talkshow, Maitri Widya Mutiara, S.Ds., M.M., said, “With this talk show, we hope that more research in interior design will be carried out and the wider community can benefit from it. The speaker’s presentation is expected to be able to provide a further and in-depth understanding of research and its application”.

Life is a wonderful form of reflection,” said Peter Carey. According to him, life is like a mystery full of surprises that must be lived.

According to Prof. Dr. Husnan Bey Fananie, M.A., movies can also be something that is related to research, especially if it works with various countries.

“Relations between countries are numerous and broad in scope, not only in dancing, but also in movies. Works of art and sculpture can also be something that is related to research. All of this must be done and practiced,” he emphasized.

Prof. Dr. Endang Caturwati, S.S.T., M.S., assessed that the collaborative work of dance and fine arts are also very beautiful topics of research.

‘’Dance is a moving painting that has broad similarities. Visual art is a form of engineering work. In making works of art as a medium of exploration, now is the right time for researchers to continue to collaborate and create extraordinary works. Even as a visual person, a wider point of view is needed to create unlimited art,” she said.

UNTAR’s Interior Design Lecturer Dr. Drs. Eddy Supriyatna M, M., Hum., also said that there is a unique “relaxed but serious” way that can be applied in writing scientific papers.

“Scientific work is actually not something that is difficult to do, if you know the strategy in its application. Creative and appropriate strategic management is needed including in performing, programming, designing, and marketing strategies,” he added.

Creative and applicable ways can increase the interest of the millennial generation to solve problems around human life by presenting solutions through research. (CG)
