FK Untar in 2017’s IMO

Two students of Universitas Tarumanagara’s Faculty of Medicine (FK Untar) successfully carved an academic achievement in the 2017 Indonesia International Medical Olympiades (IMO). This year’s IMO took the theme of “Millennial Doctors-Advancing Quality Beyond Infinity”.

The event was held by Indonesian Medical Student’s Executive Board (ISMKI) by collaboration with 72 Indonesian institutions in order to provide a vessel for the future Indonesian successors. There were also delegates from Cyberjaya University College of Medical Science Malaysia, Taylor University Malaysia, Dhaka University Bangladesh and Sir Sallimulah Medical College Bangladesh.

Since 2009, the event have been regularly held in the form of medical knowledge olympiades. There are 6 branch of medical knowledge to compete in, 4 for National’s competition (Cardiorespiratory, digestive, urogenital-reproductive and musculoskeletal) and 2 for International’s competition (Infection and Neuropsychiatry). The competition consists of 3 phases, which are the Knockout rounds, Semifinals and the Finals. There are OSPEs, OSPIs, SOCA-PH and MCQs as a method for assessment, where all of them are carried out in English.

2017’s IMO was held at October 30th to November 3rd in Universitas Sumatra Utara’s Faculty of Medicine, Medan. FK Untar’s representatives, Burhan Gunawan (NIM 405140003) and Erika Juniartha (NIM 405150002), were able to win the third position for the Infectious Disease Competition Branch.
