Master Program in Urban & Real Estate Development held a Panel Discussion on New Town Development: Market or Public Domination, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Untar main building floor 15. Prominent speakers from various institutions shared their view on the topic. They are: Agus Sutanto (Director of Regional Regulation-Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Plan/National Land Agency), Rido Matari Ichwan (Head of Regional Infrastructure Development Agency), Bernadus Djonoputro (Head of Indonesian Association of Planners), Didin Syamsudin (Head of Development Planning Agency at Sub-National Level Tangerang District).

The discussion revealed that there are 14 new town projects in Indonesia initiated by the government.  These projects were launched to fill the housing needs in Indonesia. Though the private developers are involved in these projects but the goal is to meet the public needs, hence they should not be led by the market.  In other words, the new town projects should be inclusive to cover all strata of income.
