Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) has been appointed to be the host for the Athlete Leadership Program (ALPs) training. This event is held by the Counseling Centre and Psychology Consultation of Untar, in collaboration with Special Olympic Indonesia (SOIna). The training is held for 2 days on 17-18 December 2016 at Untar, Jl. S. Parman Jakarta and opened by The Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan on Saturday (17/12) at Untar. This year marks the fifth year for Untar to be the host of APLs.
SOIna is the only organization recognized by the government and accredited by Special Olympics Internation (SOI) to supervise and organize trainings and sport competitions for the mentally disabled citizens. ALPs is a training program that provides opportunity for the mentally disabled people to create a positive social relationship by joining the basic leadership training. At this event, 25 athletes will be recruited as ALPs personnel to be involved in the program. Those athletes are expected to be the speakers and volunteers in the special Olympic. In this role, they will be competent in giving inputs on management and conveying global message of the Special Olympic.
One of the attendances is Stephanie Handojo, the ambassador of SOIna, who participates to deliver the training and encourages the participants. She is one of SOIna’s athlete that has been successfully won 2 gold medals in swimming in the 7th Special Olympic in 2009 in Singapore. (PA/AS)
