The Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan, when accompanying The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Social Affairs, Wiranto, during the public lecture
Untar has always been instilling the sense of nationalism and patriotism in their teaching methods. In a way, the university portrays “Indonesia” with 14.000 students coming from 32 provinces across Indonesia with different cultures and religious beliefs. The academic environments also reflect an “Indonesia” by its toleration and respect to diversity. Every student has the equal opportunity to grow and improve at Untar.
The statement was delivered by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan, during his speech at the public lecture of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam), TNI General (pensioner) Dr. H. Wiranto, S.H., on Tuesday (5/9) at the auditorium of Untar’s main building.
The reason of the visit by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs to Untar is to give a public lecture concerning the instilling of the patriotism (calling the subject Defending the State) in front of Untar students. The event was also attended by one of the Founder of Tarumanagara Foundation, The Ning King, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tarumanagara Foundation, Dr. Gunardi S.H., M.H., university management, and lecturers. The purpose of this public lecture is to build the spirit of Defending the State and strengthen the student’s sense of love for their country.
The Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan, believes that it is very important to instill the nationalism in students. He is aware that there has been a change of outlook on nationalism, especially in students and younger generations, thus universities shall recall the values of nationalism and patriotism in students.
He also added that the future of Indonesia is in the hands of young generations, therefore they must keep their integrity, professionalism, and entrepreneurship, so that they may contribute to our nation. “Most of Untar graduates are focusing on business, so there will be a lot of patriotic entrepreneurs created by Untar”, states the Rector.
The public lecture is very substantial for facing several issues, such as hoax that could lead to conflict. Besides that, it is also giving a wide outlook for the students as the future leaders to be aware of the potential threats and challenges of Indonesia. (Nat/DC)
