The 70th Graduation of Untar is special since it falls on the same day as Sumpah Pemuda, on Saturday (28/10). The graduation, which was held at Jakarta Convention Center and was attended by more than 1.300 graduates, became a momentum to strengthen the principle of one country, one nation, and one language, which is Indonesia.
The nuance of Indonesian culture is apparent and seen in the various ornaments and the cultural costumes of the committee. In addition, a traditional Indonesian dance was featured during the procession of the graduates, as well as the recitation of the Sumpah Pemuda followed by all the graduates.
The Rector, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan, states that the momentum of Sumpah Pemuda shall unite the spirit of Universitas Tarumanagara students. He also advises for the students to implement the principle of Unity in Diversity in the society. According to the Rector, the atmosphere of Untar, that is filled with diversity, shall be carried through by the alumni in the professional world and also the society.
“The spirit of unity and togetherness of the youth, which is one nation, one country, and one language as stated in Sumpah Pemuda, shall be preserved in this era of globalization,” emphasizes the Rector.
According to the Head of Public Relations of Untar, Paula T. Anggarina, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Committee of the 70th Graduation event, this event aims to raise the spirit of togetherness of Indonesia despite its diverse culture. “This moment is in accordance with the anniversary of Hari Sumpah Pemuda,” states the Head of Public Relations, dressed in a Central Java traditional costume.
One of the graduates, Andre Lukita, had a deep impression during the recitation of the Sumpah Pemuda. “We are glad to finally graduate, but during the graduation ceremony, we were mostly impressed by the atmosphere of the room during the recitation of the Sumpah Pemuda. It awakens the spirit of togetherness as one nation, Indonesia,” states Andre, who is the best graduate of the Faculty of Communication.
Untar, as one of the best universities in Indonesia, reflects a small scale of Indonesia, because the students come from all places across Indonesia. Although they come from different backgrounds and cultures, the harmony on campus is always maintained since the principle of Sumpah Pemuda is implemented in Universitas Tarumanagara. (Nat/DC)
