Students and youth should be able to build brotherhood, tolerance, and harmony on this earth. Prepare oneself to be an agent of change by consistently keeping up with the development of our nation, including regional and international matters. Don’t be satisfied too easily, opportunities have to be made to lift the prestige and dignity of our nation, in order to reach the standard of a developed nation.
This statement was delivered by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam), TNI General (pensioner) Dr. H. Wiranto S.H., while giving a public lecture in front of Untar students, on Tuesday (5/9) at the auditorium of Untar’s main building. The lecture was also attended by the Founder of Tarumanagara Foundation, The Ning King, the Chairman of the Board of Director of Tarumanagara Foundation, Dr. Gunardi S.H., M.H., university management, and lecturers. This event was targeted towards the younger generation, particularly Untar students, in the spirit of patriotism and to strengthen their sense of loving our nation.
“Time after time, students have always put their best foot forward in attempting to make a change. Now is the time for students to render some positive changes in order to secure our country. This can be done by instilling patriotism (calling the subject Defending the State) so that our country could be competitive in a very powerful global competition,” he adds.
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs lays out the challenges and threats that our country is currently facing, including but not limited to terrorism, cyber crime, corruption, drug abuse, intolerance behavior, and separatism. Most of these threats are related to the weakening of the human aspect (social, moral, psychological) of the nation.
He states that the act of Defending the State should be conducted by every citizen, from every educational and professional background, no matter who they are, as a way of contributing to our country. “Defending the State is very important, especially now when a lot of issues are arising that could lead to chaos and conflict,” states Wiranto.
The Rector, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan, in his welcoming regards, states that “this public lecture is aimed to plant the values of nationality and the sense of Defending the State in Untar academicians and students in particular. Most of Untar students come from entrepreneurs and business family background. So it is expected that these students will become successful entrepreneurs that will give positive contributions to our nation”, states the Rector. (Nat/DC)
