The declining of people’s purchase rate in the consumption sector is actually due to the shift of people’s interest in purchase method, from conventional shopping in stores or malls to online shopping platform. But the downside of online shopping is the imported products from overseas.
“This is a dilemma since the overseas products purchased online is difficult to impose taxes by the government. This is due to the unregulated of online purchases, a relatively new business. Online transactions are increasing, but taxes are decreasing,” states the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Universitas Tarumanagara, Dr. Sawidji Widoatmodjo, M.M., MBA.
This statement was delivered by the Dean while giving his speech at the opening of the 10th Entrepreneur Week on Friday (10/11), at the Main Atrium of Baywalk Mall in Jakarta. The 10th Entrepreneur Week with the theme “Implementing Local Genius Through Entrepreneurial Spirit” was opened by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Purna Irawan.
Sawidji adds that in order to compete with overseas products, we need to cultivate the use of local products in the society. “That is why the theme of this year’s Entrepreneur Week is very relevant to the current situation,” emphasized the Dean of the Faculty of Economics.
In Entrepreneur Week, students are given the opportunity to practice various entrepreneurship concepts, showcase their business prototype to the public and simulate in a real business environment. The event, which takes place from 10-12 November 2017 at the Main Atrium of Baywalk Mall, displays the students’ project on how to carry out a business just as a real entrepreneur would.
