History and Development of the Faculty of Communication UNTAR


1 img_6396The Faculty of Communication at Tarumanagara University was established with the passion to develop communication sciences and technology that correspond with the contemporary dynamics in science and technology. Within the academic context, communication sciences stand in the crossing of various disciplines. As such, the subject is expected to possess the flexibility to bridge the different branches of knowledge as the human civilization evolves. From the applied science point of view, communication sciences have the power to reduce uncertainties, which comes to benefit business development.

1 dsc_0161In the perspective of humanism, communication is rich in the values of sensitivity for universal democratization, which benefits humanity’s welfare. The Faculty of Communication at Tarumanagara University is also dedicated to developing communication sciences in an academic atmosphere that highly supports scientific values. For the implementation, the faculty seeks to explore the benefits of communication sciences in the broadest scope, for the interest of the business world as well as a variety of other fields within society. Reflecting this commitment, the communication sciences program at Tarumanagara University offers three concentrations, namely Public Relations, Journalism and Advertising.


To produce honorable graduates with mastery of conceptual knowledge as well as having competence in the field of communications that utilize communication and information technology.



Having an entrepreneurial spirit and possessing expertise in the fields of Public Relations, Journalism and Advertising, which is supported by creativity within the mastery of information technology, as well as adaptability in respect to the dynamics of diversity in the framework of the globalization of the communications industry.



The curriculum of the undergraduate degree in communication sciences at Tarumanagara University is designed and developed in line with efforts to foster the entrepreneurial spirit and in meeting the needs of the local and international industry. The curriculum is prepared upon the fundamental theme of competence consisted of 98 credits for the core competencies, 36 credits for secondary competencies, and 13 credits for other competencies. The program offered is an undergraduate degree with a total of 147 credits, study duration of 8 semesters or four years. The learning approach is Student Centered Learning.



The career prospects for graduates of communication sciences are very broad. In addition to entrepreneurship in the fields of the creative industry, business communications and media, graduates can also work and pursue a career in the corporate world.
