The Curriculum Structrures

Mandatory Courses and Length of Study


This section describes the program courses, with the following details:


Minimum credits taken is 148 credits

Minimum core curriculum credits taken is 76 credits


Mandatory institutional curriculum courseswith a minimum of 72 credits includes:

  1. Business law concentrated curriculum requires a minimum of (compulsory) 36 credits;
  2. Specialized curriculum study (compulsory) requires a minimum of 18 credits;
  3. Optional curriculum (minimum credits taken) requires a minimum of 18 credits.


Competency Elements:

In accordance with the Ministry of Education National Decree No. 232 / U / 2001 and the Ministry of Education National Decree No. 045 / U / 2001, the competency element consists of:

Every course has a syllabus which consists of learning methodologies starting from student competency upon understanding the learning materials, attending classes, and by comprehending the subject of each conducted class. In addition, the syllabus also factors in skill competency from each subject matter, learning method, structured assignments, evaluation, and assessment.


Competency-based curriculum provides the necessary skills positioning students at the center of learning and not only the lecturers. In order to produce competent students and graduates, the teaching method directs each individual to achieving their best potential.

To implement the best use of the method, each lecturer creates a problem scenario or real life case which will be used as a teaching tool. Before the faculty decides on which cases can be used during the class, teaching staff must examine the problem or case beforehand.


Evaluation is an important part of learning to measure and determine the level of competencies achieved by students or graduates. The evaluation is measured using a written or oral exam and structured tasks. Various forms of written or oral exams include midterms (UTS), final exams (UAS), and thesis defense (a comprehensive exam). Evaluation using structured tasks is conducted by lecturers through mandatory class assignments.


Results of the evaluation are rated from 0 to 100, which will be translated into grades A, B, C, D, or E. Scores from the end of each semester includes a component value of structured tasks, midterm and final exam grades. For theoretical courses, the component percentage is divided into assignments/tasks 20%, midterms account for 30%, and final exams makeup 50% of the entire grading system. For subjects requiring practicing skills, assignments/tasks account for 50%, midterms 20%, and final exams makeup 30%. Thesis defense scoring is made up of 50% for thesis quality, thesis presentation account for a maximum of 10%, a maximum 35% for content comprehension and the behavioral attitude makes up a maximum of 5%.

The letter grading system is composed of a pre-determined numbered range of scores which will impact the grade point average (GPA). The details are:

45,00 – 55,99D1,00 – 1,99
0 – 44,99E0 – 0,99

The GPA range indicates the quality of work associated with the different qualities of the same letters, except for the value of the letter A. It is determined by the value of the grades obtained by the students, so despite students acquiring the same letter grade, for example B, but if the numbered grading value is different then the quality of work will also differ. Equivalence between the letters and numbers along with the GPA is mandated by a university regulation set forth by the Rector.


  1. Competency-based curriculum receives final approval by the Rector through a Rector Decree.
  2. The curriculum is valid starting from the first semester of the academic year 2012/2013.
  3. Previous curriculums for students from the class of 2011/2012 and earlier generations will remain in place until the end of the second semester of the academic year 2014/2015. If student from the class of 2011 and earlier have not graduated from the Faculty of Law during their maximum length of study, we will therefore apply the competency-based curriculum.


Before applying the curriculum, FH UNTAR will socialize the program to all lecturers, students, and administrative staffs; FH UNTAR CBC will also conduct curriculum training for the lecturers before they can proceed in implementing the study with the CBC; the curriculum be reviewed periodically every two years.
